Our Vision We envision a world where girls are given equal opportunity in STEM fields! Our mission is to encourage girls to be leaders in STEM thinking! We will do this by learning about the topic of clean energy and helping our community implement some of our ideas.
We know that once we plant this seed well...we're going to grow a forest of Girls of STEM (which by the way is where we got the name GoSTEM).
Our Plan Throughout the school year we have planned events aimed at getting girls interested in science! We started the year with a movie night featuring Hidden Figures. At the event we explained the importance of the film's message to the more than 100 people who attended!
Next, we planned a Halloween themed competition. We learned out to make catapults and then taught our classmates. We held a competition to see who could launch a pumpkin (we used tangerines to keep clean) the farthest! The team who won sent their "pumpkin" 20 feet!
We celebrated this learning experience by taking our team and the winners to Knotts Berry Farm. We went to study kinetic and potential energy... but mostly just had fun on the rides! For some of us it was our very first time on a roller coaster!
We also decided we wanted to help the school by starting a composting bin to help reduce waste.
Finally, our group's final project was to create a Martian Habitat! This project is meant to teach students at our school about space exploration, the differences between Earth and Mars, and also how women contribute!
