Mars Habitat

Our plan is to encourage girls to explore the universe! We started the year with the movie Hidden Figures-- inspiring students and families to reach for the stars. Now we are bringing space to our campus!

We will build a Mars habitat to simulate what it would take to start a colony on the planet.
We will be researching the planet and making modules for students to learn all about it!
Our goal is to have every student on our campus and our local elementary school get to come and visit!

Reflection of the Year
Go Stem had a brand new team this year. We had a lot of big ideas at the beginning of the year. We quickly found out that its hard to accomplish big ideas without a clear plan.
Our first couple of events were very successful but it was hard to sustain that momentum all year!
We are very proud of our growth and look forward to helping encourage girls to get into stem fields next year too!

We're back baby!

Feels so good to be back!
This year we hit the ground running. No forget that. We didn't hit the ground we took off like a rocket.

We already had our first STEM themed workshop last night on October 6th and we had over 140 students, families, and friends in attendance! That is more people than we reached all of last year combined!

How did we do it? You must be wondering.

Well we took a page from the women of Girls Build LA and hosted a movie screening. Since we had such a blast at last year's screening of Hidden Figures with Pharrell :) the choice of which movie to showcase women in STEM was clear.

Sam started the evening by saying "Hidden Figures is a movie everyone should see." From there the girls talked about the inspiring story of courage in the face of racism and sexism and how these women blasted rockets and stereotypes out of one of the most segregated states in the US.

Check out the kids and families attending. It was a wonderful fun night and just a spectacular way to get our name out to the community and show them what we are all about. What we really believe in.

The night was so successful we even had boys BEGGING to join GoSTEM. One even planned to sneak in wearing a wig and a dress (you know because it always works in movies).

We told him not to worry and to put his lipstick away. We're having events twice a month where we will teach him and the rest of the kids on campus and people in our community cool STEM projects.
